Date Tamarind Chutney

Date tamarind chutney is a key ingredient in any chat recipes like Dahipuri, Sev puri, Bhel, Ragda petis and many more. You can make this chutney and store it in a freezer for 6 months and 3 months in refrigerator. I generally make it in a bulk and store it in different small containers in a freezer.

Dates – 2 cup
Jaggery – 1/2 cup
Tamarind – 1/2 cup
Red chilli powder – 2 tsp
Coriander cumin seed powder – 2 tsp
Salt – 1 tsp


Add 2 cup dates to a round bottom pan. Add 2 cups of water. Stir well. Let it come to a boil.Add 1/2 cup jaggery, 1 tsp salt, 2 tsp coriander cumin seed powder and 2 tsp red chilli powder. Stir and let it simmer on a slow flame for 25-30 min till the dates become absolutely soft.

Add 1/2 cup tamarind and let it cook for 5 min.Let it cool down completely.Add it to a grinder and churn well into a smooth paste. Sieve it properly and store it.
