Coconut Chutney is the most basic chutney recipe for south indian dishes like dosa, idli, uttapam, medu vadas and many more.
Preparing time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 2 minutes
Coconut (grated) or Desiccated coconut (coconut powder) – 1 cup
Chana Dal – 1/4 cup
Green chilli – 1 small
Sugar – if needed ( if the coconut is not sweet then you can add 1 tsp)
Salt – 1/4 tsp
Water – if required
Oil – 1 tsp
Black gram(Urad Dal) – 2 tsp
Mustard seeds (rai) – 2 tsp
Curry leaves – 10-15
Asafoetida – pinch
Add all the ingredients- coconut , green chillis, chana dal, sugar ,salt , coriander leaves together and grind it into smooth paste. (Generally people don’t use coriander leaves in this chutney, but i like its color and taste)
Heat oil in a small pan. Add the urad dal and fry till it becomes brown. Add mustard seeds. When they splutter, add curry leaves and asafoetida.
Fry for a minute. Immediately pour the tempering on the coconut chutney.
Mix it well with the coconut chutney before serving it. And your chutney is ready 🙂
