Mag dal (Split green gram beans- yellow) –1 cup
Water –3 cups
Oil – 2 tbsp
Cumin seeds – 1 tbsp
Mustard seeds – 1 tbsp
Asafoetida – 1/2 tsp
Ginger-Garlic- Chilli paste – 1.5 tbsp
Tomato – 1 large (chopped)
Onion – 1 medium (chopped)
Turmeric Powder – 2 tsp
Red chili powder – 2 tsp
coriander-cumin seed powder – 2 tsp
Sugar – 1 tbsp
Salt – 1.5 tsp
Spinach leaves – 2 cups (chopped)
Lemon juice – 2 tsp
Wash mag dal, add 2 cups of water and put it in pressure cook and cook it on medium flame with 2 whistles.Heat the oil in a pan.Once hot add cumin seeds,mustard seeds and asafoetida. Let them sizzle.Add ginger-garlic- chilli paste and cook it for 2 minutes.
Add onions.Cook till it is light brown. Add tomato and cook it for 2 minutes. Add red chilli powder, turmeric powder, salt, coriander-cumin seed powder, suger and cook it for 3 minutes.
Add chopped spinach. Mix it and cook it for 2 minutes. Add cooked dal and 1 cup of water. Let it come to boil. Cook it for another 2-3 minutes. Add Lemon juice and serve.
You can serve it with roti or rice. Enjoy !! 🙂
